Is Winter Stiffness Slowing You Down? Try Assisted Stretching (Midland, MI)

Winter stretching, assisted stretching at Midland Sports Rehab and Freeland Sports RehabDec 16th  2025

Winter in Michigan often means colder temperatures, less movement, and more time spent sitting indoors. As activity levels drop and muscles stay colder, many people begin to notice increased stiffness — especially in the hips, back, shoulders, and legs.

Winter tightness can show up as:

  • Reduced flexibility and range of motion

  • Muscle soreness or tension

  • Feeling stiff when getting up or starting activity

  • Discomfort during exercise or daily tasks

For many people, stretching on their own becomes inconsistent or ineffective, making it harder to keep muscles loose and moving well throughout the winter months.

Stay Flexible This Winter: The Importance of Assisted Stretching During the Colder Months

Winter stretching, assisted stretching at Midland Sports Rehab and Freeland Sports RehabJan 2nd  2025

As winter settles in and temperatures drop, it’s easy to become less active. The cold weather often leads to tight muscles, stiff joints, and a reluctance to maintain our usual exercise routines. That’s where assisted stretching can make a significant difference. Whether you’re an athlete, a desk worker, or someone who simply wants to feel better, stretching during the winter months is essential for staying healthy and preventing discomfort.

Why Winter Makes Stretching More Important

Cold weather affects our bodies in many ways:

  • Muscle Tightness: Lower temperatures cause muscles to contract, making them feel tighter and more prone to injury.

I have been to massage therapists, acupuncturists, and other physical therapists for persistent low back pain. Dr. Emily identified the problem immediately a began a series of in office stretches, walking and dry needling and gave me exercises to do at home. I am now pain free for the first time in years.

This was such a nice calm experience. Because of the pain I had I was a little nervous, but from the moment I walked in I felt welcome and well taken care of. I would highly recommend this place to everyone of all ages!
